Students Love P.E. at W.E.P

Being Committed and Creative With P.E. at W.E. Parker

Ms. Byers is committed and creative when it comes to teaching P.E. at W.E. Parker Elementary. This is her sixth year of teaching P.E. and her sixth year at W.E. Parker.

Ms. Byers says, “I want all students to enjoy coming to P.E. where they can feel a sense of community between their classmates and me.” She believes that there are so many ways to teach skills and she wants to be creative in the way her students learn. One of the ways she demonstrates creativity in her lessons and connects to Personalized Learning is through the heart rate monitors that students will soon be using. Ms. Byers also feels that commitment is important as well. To show commitment students are working hard and doing their best to improve at the skill they are currently working on.

At this time, students in grades CD- second grade are working on locomotor skills and manipulative skills. This includes different ways to move around the room, juggling scarves, and tossing and catching. The third – fifth grade students are learning fitness components, food groups, and are now transitioning to offensive and defensive strategies during invasion games.

Ms. Byers says, “I want the students to recognize the importance of being active and to continue being active throughout their lives.”
