Music Class at W.E.P

Loving Music at W.E.P

Students at W.E. Parker Elementary have a variety of learning opportunities when they attend music class each week. Their music teacher, Mrs. LaCross, provides each student with opportunities to express their creativity through music. Mrs. LaCross has been a music teacher at W.E. Parker Elementary for 5 years. She graduated from USC-Aiken with a BA degree in Music Education. Mrs. Lacross says, “I hope all the students at W.E. Parker develop a love, enjoyment, and appreciation for music.” She also hopes they find a type of music they can relate to because music is a good coping mechanism when you find what you like.

Throughout their years at W.E. Parker students will experience different musical activities. Currently, the Child Development and Kindergarten classes are working on simple rhythms using percussion instruments. The first grade students are singing while playing xylophones and percussion instruments by themselves. The second through fifth grade students are beginning to sing solos and improvising rhythms at various levels. Also in the future, the third through fifth grade students will have the experience of learning and playing the recorder beginning in October. The fourth and fifth grade students will learn how to play the piano in January. In addition to all these activities during their regular class time, fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity to become a member of chorus. As a member of chorus they will be able to participate in the yearly production that is held in the spring and attend special events where they can show off their singing talents.

Mrs. LaCross encourages all the students at W.E. Parker Elementary to be their best musical self.
