Being Creative with Art at W.E.P

Students at W.E. Parker Elementary have a variety of learning opportunities when they attend art class each week. Their art teacher, Ms. Olsen, provides each student with opportunities to express their creativity. Ms. Olsen has been an art teacher for twenty-four years. This is her second year as the art teacher at W. E. Parker Elementary. Ms. Olsen says, “One of the things I love about the art room is having our very own working kiln so students can create their own ceramics”.  She believes that everyone is an artist, some students just respond differently to the materials. She enjoys helping students explore their artistic talents.

Students at W.E. Parker Elementary are able to take their art work through a process of visualizing their idea first and then working to create it to make it tangible. The fifth grade students are currently creating Van Gogh relief landscapes with cardboard and tempera paint and the fourth grade students are pulling Styrofoam prints of desert designs. Third grade students are painting warm/cool sun and moon drawings while the second grade students are painting sunset landscapes. In addition, first grade students are drawing and using watercolors to design illustrations based on literacy connections. Also, the kindergarten students are creating paintings with primary colors.

All the students at W.E. Parker Elementary are being inspired to create beautiful pieces of art each day thanks to their art teacher Ms. Olsen.
